You’ve got to upgrade your mattress, but there are so many options out there. Some are hybrids, and some are all foam. Some have proprietary foams, and some use latex. The possibilities are overwhelming.

Crave mattress is one of those options. They offer two different types of mattress, hybrid and memory foam, plus two different firmness options for each. Crave is one of many options that are part of the online mattress revolution, but are they worth your time? Crave’s mattress choices do take advantage of research about the best ways we sleep and how to take advantage of it for better recovery.

We’ve got our opinion. In this Crave review, we’ll share our breakdown of the mattress, plus answer a few questions you may have and offer some alternatives to help widen your decision. Let’s take a look.

Things to Consider Before Buying a New Mattress

Despite having a lot of choices, there are a few things you should consider when you’re buying your new mattress.
Contouring and Support

Old mattresses weren’t great at being comfortable, but new mattresses take advantage of sleep research. Your new mattress should have a layer of contouring materials (or more) that allow your curves to sink deeper into the mattress.

The support layer supports your weight and helps keep your spine aligned. Support layers can be dense foams for inner springs, but they should both push back against your weight to prevent mattress sag.

Edge Support

Edge support keeps the mattress from compressing around the edges more than the middle. If you’re part of a couple, this is especially important. You both will be able to sleep on the edge of the mattress while retaining full support on a mattress with proper edge support. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you’re sliding off.

A good mattress should have reinforced edges or dense support layers that can take your weight towards the edge and there should be no sweet spot in the middle of the mattress.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep as part of a couple, you’ll also need motion isolation. This prevents your partner’s movements from waking you up in the middle of the night. Good mattresses dampen motion across the mattress.

Memory foam is the king of motion isolation, but innersprings should be individually pocketed and sandwiched between motion dampening materials to prevent that middle of the night jiggle from ruining your sleep.

Temperature Regulation

If you choose a bed that incorporates memory foam, make sure it has provisions in place to prevent storing heat in the mattress. Many foams are gel infused and open cell to help draw heat away from the body and move air to help refresh the mattress.

Presenting the Product – The Crave Mattress

Crave mattresses come in two different choices, hybrid and all foam. Both styles come in firm and soft options to appeal to a variety of sleep preferences and positions. It’s eco-friendly and easy on the respiratory system.

The hybrid mattress options use a combination of latex, memory foam, and pocketed coils. The top layer is convoluted latex that helps with airflow and temperature regulation. It has targeted zones that provide more support where you need it and more contouring for your broadest points.

The layer underneath is memory foam. It provides pressure relief and cushioning from the innerspring. It also helps prevent motion transfer due to the springs. Underneath individually pocketed coils for support. The reinforced edge helps with edge support.

The all foam option is the same type of materials for the first two layers, but the dense support layer is reinforced foam. It has seven inches of high-density foam that pushes back against your weight and gives the mattress structural integrity.

Crave offers you a 100-night sleep trial to decide if it’s the right one for you. Make sure you give it a few weeks before you decide to see if it’s the right one. If you give it some time and it doesn’t work out, you can return it any time before the trial period is over.

Your mattress is covered by a ten-year warranty against mattress defects. If you notice any abnormal sagging or wear and tear, Crave has you covered.

Crave doesn’t offer white glove delivery, but your mattress is compressed and shipped in a box. You can unpack it whenever you’re ready.

Features and Benefits

Let’s get to the good stuff.

Contouring And Support

Crave uses a blend of materials to create layers of contouring and support. The top layers of both options are a blend of latex and memory foam. The latex layer is convoluted egg crate. Egg crate provides loft for the top layer which improves airflow and gives you a soft upper surface.

The middle memory foam layer is adaptive, so it’s supportive where you need it and contours where you need it. It gently transitions your body to the dense support layer while helping your spine decompress.

The bottom layer is either individually pocketed coils or dense memory foam. Both of these layers provide excellent support for your pressure points and your back. Together, these layers help the mattress feel softer than it actually is without losing support.

Edge Support

Both the hybrid option and the all foam option have good edge support. Both are reinforced with extra materials on the edge of the mattress to help reduce the compression as you sit or lay on the edge.

The innerspring option is a little more supportive on the edges of the foam because the coils get tighter at the edges. This counteracts the compression on the edge better than our expectations.

The all-foam options do have a little more compression, but you should still be able to sleep or sit on the edge without losing support. It may just take some time to get used to the feeling at first.

Motion Transfer

The all foam option does have better motion isolation than the innerspring option. Foam is excellent at motion isolation anyway, but with two layers of memory foam and a layer of latex, you should still feel good response on the top layer without transferring that response to your partner.

The innerspring option is bouncier than the foam choice, but it uses plenty of foam to help dampen the motion. It also uses individually pocketed coils to reduce interference. Each coil stands mostly alone in its own fabric shell to help keep a pristine surface for both you and your partner.

An extra benefit of motion isolation is that if one of you is heavier than the other, it reduces the indentation underneath the heavier person. It doesn’t take much of a difference in weight to create an indent that causes the other partner to roll towards the other all night. With Crave, you shouldn’t experience that situation.

Temperature Regulation

The hybrid option has excellent temperature regulation. Inner springs are great at helping air flow and don’t store heat in the core of the mattress. The latex has excellent air flow as well. Every time you move, air is forced through the air pockets and continually refreshes the mattress.

Memory foam is also open cell and helps increase air flow. Although memory foam has a reputation for being hot, this style of foam has higher airflow than traditional styles.

The all foam option isn’t quite as cool, but it does do a great job of moving air through the mattress, keeping things cool and preventing heat from storing up even in the dense support core of the support layer.

Firmness Options And Sleep Positions

The hybrid options come in both luxury plush and firm. The luxury plush is excellent for side sleepers who prefer a softer mattress and don’t have any outstanding back issues or pain. It really gives underneath your widest points without losing support. We wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers because the foam may not be quite supportive enough.

The hybrid firm option is useful for stomach and back sleepers because it offers a much firmer surface. Stomach sleepers won’t overextend their spines because the ultra firm surface prevents the body from sinking as far into the mattress. It’s also good for people with back pain.

The foam options come in firm and medium firm. Stomach and back sleepers should also find the all foam option supportive enough. The dense support foam pushes back against the body, so the firmness rating is about the same as the innerspring option.

The medium firm option is excellent for combination support. If you frequently change positions or your partner has a different firmness preference than you do, medium firm is a good choice. It’s considered to be a universally comfortable option and will be an excellent choice for couples.
Eco-Friendliness

Memory foam can be quite a polluter. If you’ve got any respiratory allergies, memory foam can be terribly irritating. Both options are mildew resistant and replace about 30% of the petroleum byproduct with a natural, soy-based material.

Both mattresses are certified by CertiPur-US. They are low emissions and produce very little VOCs. CertiPur-US is an independent lab that determines if materials are a certain standard of environmental friendliness and don’t interfere with air quality.

The mattresses are manufactured in the United States and are manufactured locally in several areas, reducing the overall carbon footprint of mattress production and shipping.

Sleep Trial And Warranty

Crave gives you 100 nights to try out your mattress. When you buy a mattress online, it’s nerve-wracking because you can’t try it out before you buy. Crave makes sure that you have plenty of time to decide if the mattress is going to be the right one for you.

We recommend sleeping on the mattress for at least 30 nights. It can take time for a bed to break in and for your body to adjust. If you only give the mattress a few nights, it may not be at peak performance.

If you give it some time and you decide it really isn’t the right one for you, you can return the mattress for a full refund. The company makes it easy for you to return your mattress because they stand by their product.

Your mattress is covered by a ten-year warranty against mattress defects. If you notice any abnormal sagging or wear and tear, the company will replace your mattress for free.

Options For Heavier People

We don’t recommend this mattress if you’re heavier than the average sleeper. It’s not rated for larger amounts of weight, so if you’re much over 350 pounds, you may experience more of the support layer. This makes the mattress feel firmer than it actually is and you won’t get any of the benefits of the contouring layers.

Customer Service

They don’t officially disclose where their customer service representatives are located, but it appears that they’re located in the United States. They’re polite and handle inquiries efficiently. If you call with an issue, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting a quick resolution for your problem. We’ve had only good experiences.
Price

One amazing thing about Crave mattress is that it’s really affordable. You don’t have to sacrifice your comfort for your wallet.

Their most expensive option, the luxury plush hybrid, is just under $1500 for a California king. The budget option, the medium firm foam choice, is just $700 for a California king. It’s quite affordable even for a bed-in-a-box option.

Quick Points

If you still can’t decide, let’s look at the key points.

What We Like:

  • highly affordable
  • both hybrid and all-foam options
  • A blend of latex and foam improves responsiveness
  • excellent customer service
  • made in the United States

What We Don’t Like:

  • no options for heavier sleepers
  • no white glove delivery options
  • the edge support of the foam option could improve
  • no non-standard sizes

Who It’s For?

Crave mattress would be good for sleepers with a smaller budget. The hybrid options are great for couples who love a little bounce in their mattress but need motion isolation when it’s time to sleep. It’s also good for people who can’t maneuver out of memory foam options and need the momentum of their body weight to get out of bed.

The foam option is good for those who are combination sleepers and don’t have many aches and pains. It’s also good for people who need absolute motion isolation because you really don’t feel much motion at all.

Social Proof

“Love, love, love this mattress. I was researching different online mattress companies and came across CRAVE mattress, it offered the combination of foam and innerspring/ plush. Delivery was quick about 5 days. Feels like sleeping on clouds.”

“It was hard for me to imagine a comfortable, supportive bed being delivered in a box. But my Crave plush innerspring exceeded my expectations! Delivery was fast and convenient, and the product has proven to be superior to any other mattress I’ve slept on. Soft, supportive, eco-friendly, and convenient. Can’t get much better than that!”

Alternatives

DreamCloud – Hybrid Alternative

DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress that uses eight different layers to provide contouring and support. The top layers are foam, one gel infused and one quilted for loft and breathability. Underneath, transitional layers ease your body to the support layer with latex for response.

The support layer is individually pocketed coils for better support. The foam layers prevent motion transfer, but the coils offer plenty of targeted support and keep your spine aligned.

DreamCloud offers a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty against mattress defects. Even though you can’t try the mattress out before you purchase it, you are covered with the trial period and the generous warranty.

DreamCloud also offers the option for white glove delivery. If you can’t handle getting the mattress in place, a delivery person can help you with that.

We recommend DreamCloud particularly for heavier people because of the targeted levels of support with the springs and foam layers.

Puffy – All Foam Option

Puffy’s all memory foam mattress is a good option for those who prefer all foam. It uses a gel infused layer called Cloud, a proprietary foam built just for Puffy. It gives way underneath your broadest points while filling in gaps around your waist and lower back.

The second layer is the dense support layer. It pushes back against your total weight to help keep your spine aligned, but it still gives way underneath broadest points for better circulation and healing.

The simple two layers are both open cell to allow air flow and to prevent heat from building up in the core of the mattress. The cover materials are cooling and stretch with the comfort layer.

You have 101 nights to try the mattress out before you decide if it’s the right one. You should sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights to allow it to break in. You’re covered by a lifetime warranty against mattress defects. If you notice that the mattress displays abnormal wear and tear, Puffy will take care of it for you.

Puffy doesn’t have the option of white glove delivery, but it will arrive in a box at your doorstep to assemble whenever you need.

We recommend Puffy for people who love a simple memory mattress. We also love `it for combination sleepers or couples with different sleep preferences.

Conclusion

Crave mattress is a good option for hybrid and all foam options. It’s affordable and doesn’t sacrifice comfort at all. It’s got a good combination of edge support and motion isolation, so you sleep well alone or with a partner. It’s also great for those who need a softer option as side sleepers.

We still prefer the DreamCloud as one of our all-time favorite hybrid options, but Crave does offer quite a few benefits for those who need a hybrid choice. It does have a softer choice than DreamCloud or Puffy, which is nice. It’s targeted for side sleepers, and we’d be willing to recommend it over the other two mattresses for those who sleep exclusively on their side and have no back or shoulder pain.

We recommend Crave and think if you go this direction, you’ll be happy with your choice. Make sure you try the mattress out for at least 30 days, but we don’t think you’ll be sending this one back.
